Once you get your shit together, and are ready to take action, read this.
I know a lot of you are losing your shit. I REALLY know. Not only are climate-change induced natural disasters causing tragedies world-wide, insanity-stricken politicians like our own Orangeness are creating massive havoc in the lives of already vulnerable populations -- this week it's DACA recipients. Who will it be next week??
Sometimes we have to just stop, sit down, and mourn for the never-not-broken world.
And if you need, like really need, to pull yourself together, I really, really recommend metta practice if you are at your wits end.
Here's a metta practice you might benefit from.
AND once you get yourself sorted, let's ground down in the acknowledgement that, throughout history, people have been capable of brutal insanity. However, this has always been balanced by those yearning for justice and equality and peace.
So let's not freak out for too long... We will not be very useful if we are freaking out! If we yearn for peace, let's settle ourselves, and then organize, speak out, and rejoice in the compassionate intelligence that shines steadily through the insanity.
Let's wield that bright goodness, ever present within, and remember the balance of forces. And from there, restore our world to order.
Here are some ideas for Practical Engaged Activism
Call your Senators and tell them to co-sponsor the bipartisan Durbin-Graham “DREAM Act” (S. 1615) to create a legislative fix to the predicament of these young Americans, and take their future out of Trump’s hands.
Call your House Representative and tell her/him to co-sponsor Rep. Gutierrez’s American Hope Act (H.R. 3591) to give those with DACA and others who arrived in the United States as children a path to permanent legal status and eventual citizenship.
Give some money to the Southern Poverty Law Center!
Get a sign for your lawn!
Rejoice in the numerous voices that are speaking out against racist policies. SO MANY have spoken against Trump's repeal of DACA. SO MANY have spoken out against white supremacy. Most are Democrats, but even some Republicans have been outspoken. This requires true heroism in these times of fiercely partisan politics! So celebrate the sanity when you see it! And emphasize it -- draw attention back to the reality that people are actually mostly awesome.
